ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will mark the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year with a Freshman Convocation on Monday, Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Main Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center. This special ceremony is a time to welcome incoming students into the Concord community.

The event will feature a special message from Eric Colley, a 1998 Concord graduate and on-air talent for TMZ.

Colley, a native of Bluefield, W.Va., says his graphic design and video production classes at Concord led him to a career in television. His career path has taken him from part-time work at a local television station to a nationally syndicated morning show based in Dayton, Ohio and later in Orlando, Fla. to entertainment news at TMZ in Los Angeles. His stint with TMZ includes work with the show’s on-air and video editorial/production staff.

Following the convocation, the traditional Tree Planting Ceremony in honor of the incoming students of 2016 will be held in the lawn between the Fine Arts Center and the Carter Center.
