JAY WRIGHT NAMED INTERIM DIRECTOR
OF CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM
ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Upward Bound Program welcomes Jay Wright as Interim Director.
Wright began serving in the position on July 11. He hit the ground running by enjoying the end of summer trip with Upward Bound students to Amish Country, Gettysburg College, Hershey Park and The Gettysburg Battlefields.
Wright joins Concord’s Upward Bound with many years of TRiO and leadership experience on his resume. He served as the head Residential Counselor with the Marshall University Upward Bound from 1990 to 1994.
He left TRiO for a short time to pursue positions in Higher Education in Philadelphia, Pa. and Wilmington, N.C.
In 2000 Wright returned to his alma mater, Marshall University, to direct the newly funded Talent Search Programs. He became the Upward Bound Director at Marshall in 2008 and in 2015 he accepted a position with Student Support Services at Glenville College.
Wright’s state and regional leadership positions include service with the Council for Opportunity in Education where he has been Conference Chair, Board Secretary and Parliamentarian. He has served the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Programs Personnel as President, Conference Chair, Governmental Relations Chair and Policy Seminar Coordinator. Additionally, he has led the West Virginia Association of Educational Opportunity Programs Personnel as President and served as Student Leadership Conference Chair and Policy Seminar Chair.
Wright earned an RBA and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Marshall University.
