Academic Advisor

Concord University Veterans Upward Bound Program

The Concord University Research and Development Corporation seeks an Academic Advisor for the federally-funded Veterans Upward Bound grant at Concord University. The Academic Advisor responsible for assisting in program implementation and for providing direct services to program participants in the Concord University Veterans Upward Bound Program.

Position Description

This position is federally funded by the Department of Education, through the Veterans Upward Bound program. The position is responsible for assisting in participant selection and the advising program during the academic year and summer components. The position is full time, benefits eligible position with a salary commensurate with experience, contingent upon the availability of funding.

Minimum qualifications:

1.      Bachelor’s in Education, Social Work, Psychology or human service related field;

2.      Experience working directly with college students or perspective college students;

3.      Excellent written and oral communication skills;

4.      Experience in maintaining confidentiality;

Preferred qualifications:

1.      Master’s in Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field;

2.      3+ years’ experience in working with veterans or college students;

3.      Knowledge of the post-secondary admissions process;

4.      Experience and knowledge of Testing & Assessment Instruments and the ability to assess academic need and performance;

5.      Experience with federally funded TRiO programs.

Concord University, Athens, WV, USA (will involve some travel)

Program Assistant

Concord University Veterans Upward Bound Program

The Concord University Research and Development Corporation seeks a Program Assistant for the federally-funded Veterans Upward Bound grant at Concord University. The Program Assistant provides clerical and supportive services to the daily office operations for the Concord University Veterans Upward Bound Program at Concord University.

Position Description

This position is federally funded by the Department of Education, through the veterans Upward Bound program. This position includes general office management as well as fiscal responsibilities.  The position is full time, benefits eligible position with a salary commensurate with experience, contingent upon the availability of funding.

Minimum qualifications:

Associate Degree in Business, Computer Technology, or related field;

Previous experience in providing administrative support;

Demonstrated written and oral skills;

Ability to organize and manage variety of tasks;

Desire to work with and ability to relate to diverse populations

Basic office skills

Preferred qualifications:

1.     Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Technology, or related field;

2.     Experience working with veterans; 

3.     Experience working with confidential student information;

4.     Advanced office/ computer skills including database experience, spreadsheet/budget experience, and experience with office management software such as Microsoft Office Suite;

5.     Experience working with TRiO programs and/or other state/federal education grant programs;

6.     The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, self-motivated, and well-organized with strong attention to detail.

Research Data Technician

Job Description 

Concord University Research and Development Corporation seeks a research data technician to contribute to a recently-funded (NSF EarthCube #1740669), collaborative, multi-institution project. The technician will work with project partners and laboratories to prepare data and metadata for incorporation into geoscience community data repositories.  The primary focus will be to process and manage information on volcanic samples, their major- and trace-element compositions, and key contextual and methodological information. The technician will clearly and effectively document all data handling processes and will communicate progress toward project goals.

The position is grant funded initially for one year and may be extended pending further funding.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum requirements

1.      Master’s degree in Geoscience, Library/Information Science, Mathematics/Statistics, or similar

2.      Experience managing and processing scientific or similar data stored in spreadsheets, plain text, NetCDF, or other formats

3.      Able to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

Additional preferred qualifications:

a.       Doctoral degree in Geoscience, Library/Information Science, Mathematics/Statistics, or similar

b.      Familiarity with data discovery, data analysis, statistical techniques, and related software

c.       Experience with volcanology-tephrochronology and/or analytical chemistry (e.g. EPMA, LA-ICP-MS, SIMS) data.

d.      Experience with scientific sample collections or similar

e.       General understanding of data integrity/data quality and data provenance issues

f.        Experience with complex spreadsheets containing extensive calculations and linked data

g.       Able to work well both individually and on a team

h.      Well-organized with excellent attention to detail

Concord University, Athens, WV, USA (will involve some occasional travel)
