Academic Improvement Mentoring (AIM)

The Academic Improvement Mentoring Program (A.I.M) is a peer mentoring program designed to promote program participants' success in Student Support Services at Concord University.  The A.I.M program goals are to increase retention rates in participants' intended majors and to increase college graduation rates.  The program is geared toward achieving specific academic and developmental goals that are focused on participants' overall development.

Peer mentors provide SSS students academic support through:

  • one-on-one and small group mentoring sessions
  • facilitating academic and professional discussions
  • promoting academic and life skills development
  • helping students locate resources
  • tutor referrals

Our program strives to ensure that all participants are given the full opportunity to discover and develop their talents, interests, and unique potential, as well as provide a learning-centered environment that presents the context for intellectual, cultural, professional, and personal growth during their college experience.  Each participant will learn to become an independent, confident, learner through development of effective study habits, learning techniques, and time management skills that will enhance their college experience, and ultimately enable them to achieve a post-secondary degree.
