ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Foundation is hosting a special fundraiser that offers participants a fun activity as they support scholarships and campus projects. Benefitting the Concord University Annual Fund, the “10k Your Way” is a virtual race taking place over the span of seven days. Participants will have the week of April 26 through midnight on May 2, 2020 to run/walk a total of 6.2 miles.
“We are hosting this event to not only reunite the Concord community, but also to offer a fun opportunity to get active during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Chelsea Goins, development coordinator, said.
“We named this event the ‘10k Your Way’ because we want the participants to complete this virtual 10k at their own pace. We understand this has been a difficult time for many; therefore we want to make this event doable for everyone. We hope this virtual event can bring some light during this time,” Goins said.
“We are encouraging the community to get out and move around, fight off the quarantine blues and support the university,” stated Alicia Besenyei, Vice President of Advancement. “It is important for everyone to keep their spirits up during the health crisis. With the weather warming up, we thought it would be a fun way to get the community outside and moving while supporting the university.”
Participants can complete the race in a variety of ways including running on a treadmill or outside. Everyone should practice social distancing and respect the Governor’s mandate to be safe during the pandemic.
The registration fee is $25 for all participants including Concord faculty, staff and students; the general public; and children. Advance registration is necessary and may be completed online at www.concord.edu/10k
Once they have registered, all participants will be included in a special Facebook group for the race where they can share their progress. Participants will also be mailed a “10k Your Way” T-shirt.
