CONCORD UNIVERSITY AWARDS EMERGENCY RELIEF FUNDS TO STUDENTS
ATHENS, W.Va. –
Concord University has issued more than half a million dollars in emergency relief funds to students, and financial officials say more grants will be distributed later this week.
The U.S. Department of Education enacted the CARES Act in April, issuing funding to colleges and universities that was earmarked to help students with financial need stemming from COVID-19 related disruption of campus operations, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, child care, medical and travel expense.
Concord University has distributed relief grants to 574 students totaling $511,500. The University plans on issuing more funds on May 21. The deadline to apply has been extended to Wednesday, May 27. Students who have not submitted a CARES Act Grant application for the spring semester will have a chance to apply for the grant in the fall.
“During such an unprecedented time, this grant has allowed us to care for our students who not only had to adjust to changes in the structure of classes and campus operations, but who may have suffered other hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says President Kendra Boggess.
To be eligible for the CARES Act Grant, students have to complete an application, have a FAFSA on file for the 2019-2020 school year, and qualify for Title IV aid.
