CONCORD UNIVERSITY’S PRESIDENT HONORS EMPLOYEES FOR THEIR ‘EXCELLENCE’ THROUGH THE PANDEMIC

ATHENS, W.Va. – President Kendra Boggess has awarded her annual Presidential Excellence Award to every employee of Concord University this year, a departure from tradition that the president feels is necessary. The decision was made in response to the overwhelming determination, flexibility, and devotion to duty exhibited through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Historically, the awards are given in conjunction with Concord University’s Founders Day, celebrated each year on Feb. 28. As the university remembers the pioneer spirit that founded the institution, the president recognizes employees that exhibit qualities similar to Concord’s founders—persistence, dedication, and a willingness to go above and beyond what is required for the betterment of the school and its mission.

After the tireless efforts exhibited by so many staff and faculty throughout the pandemic, President Boggess felt there was no way to narrow down recipients.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the university to continuously make adjustments to how we operate so that our students, faculty, and staff are able to work while remaining safe,” says President Boggess. “Without the contribution of every department and employee, we would not have been successful, and I cannot express my appreciation enough.”

One plaque to commemorate the award will be placed alongside past winners in the Joseph F. Marsh Library, and the name of each employee will hang in the display case in the Jean and Jerry Beasley Student Center.

As a more personal token of her appreciation, Dr. Boggess will also treat all Concord faculty and staff to a grande cup of their choosing from the campus Starbucks.
