Department of Biology Scholarships

The following scholarships are available for biology majors. Click the link to the right to complete the application form.​

Review the descriptions of the scholarships below. If you meet the eligibility requirements, we encourage you to apply.​

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate student attending Concord University and a declared major in Biology.​​

Bluefield Regional Medical Center Scholarship
  • Mercer County resident​
  • 3.5 GPA or higher​
  • Demonstrate financial need​
  • Pursuing career in health profession​
  • Academically talented​

Dr. Jerry Blatt Scholarship
  • Outstanding student ​
  • Sophomore or higher​
  • Pursuing science or medicine​
  • WVSOM bound preferred if awarded to pre-med student​
  • Maintain cumulative 3.0 GPA at time of award and throughout​
  • Recommendation from two College of Science, Mathematics, and Health faculty members
Janina Ziemnowicz Science Scholarship
  • Junior or Senior ​
  • Demonstrates academic promise ​
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75​​
Lucy Epperson Hale Memorial Scholarship
Preference given to Wyoming East HS graduated followed by Wyoming County resident
Jerry Lee Willis Chiropractic Scholarship
  • Resident of Mercer, McDowell or Monroe counties in WV​
  • Or resident of Wythe, Smyth, Washington, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, Buchanan, Dickenson or Tazwell counties in VA​
  • References (two teachers, counselors and/or principal) to attest to the candidate’s character and academic potential​
  • Candidate must agree to matriculate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA upon graduation from CU​
  • Must remain in good academic standing and stay in good standing with the university​
  • 3.0 GPA​
Lewis E. Tierney Scholarship
  • Must have completed Freshman year of college with 24 hours and a 2.5 GPA​
  • Demonstrate financial need​
  • Non-renewable​
​ Undergraduate Waiver (CCUS)
  • 3.0 GPA ​
  • Non-renewable​
  • Student cannot have another tuition specific scholarship such as Promise, HSTA, DHHR, U564, or outside scholarships designated for tuition
Joseph Hatcher Scholarship
  • Must have completed Freshman year of college with 24 hours and 2.5 GPA​
  • Mercer County resident​
  • Demonstrate financial need​
  • Non-renewable
Bolen Scholarship Fund
  • Student must be from Mercer or McDowell County, WV​
  • Department nomination required
Hawey A. Wells, Sr. Scholarship Fund
  • Outstanding college senior ​
  • Pre-medicine or pre-dentistry student​
  • 3.0 GPA or higher​
  • Department nomination required
Laurence E. Bayless Scholarship for Excellence in Field Biology
  • Upcoming college Junior or Senior​
  • 3.0 GPA or higher​
  • Conduct independent research with the goal of attending graduate school​
  • Department nomination required
