Supporting Equipment

The microanalytical laboratory is supported by several additional pieces of equipment. These include:

Epson V850 pro high-resolution scanner and polarizing film for full thin section scans in plane and cross-polarized light

Denton Vacuum DV-502 high-vacuum coater


A separate sample preparation lab with:
Hillquist thin section machine



Buehler grinder/polisher with magnetic quick-change system



plus several rock saws for small, medium, and large samples, ultrasonic cleaner, and polarizing light (petrographic) microscopes.

Additional analytical equipment available for use includes: an atomic force microscope (AFM), Raman spectrometer, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS), gas chromatograph (GC), high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), supercritical fluid extraction equipment, a fluorimeter, and UV/Vis spectroscopy.
