Dr. Ramthun spent seven years as a staff member and administrator of non-profit organizations before beginning a teaching career. His experience was in the field of adventure programming for at-risk youth. Dr. Ramthun teaches courses in research methodology, outdoor recreation management and ecotourism.
Dr. Ramthun's research interests include user group conflict in recreation, carrying capacity and the measurement of social impacts. Current projects include the development of an educational exchange program with Mari State Technical University in Russia and the measurement of the effects of stream stocking on tourist visitation at a West Virginia state park.
