Biography

Sarah M. Whittaker, PhD, MSW, LCSW, is a Distinguished Professor of Social Work at Concord University.   Her current position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Previously, she has served as the Director of the Bachelor of Social Work program and Interim Director of the Master of Social Work program.  She is the manager of the Public Service (IV-E) Scholarship Program for the University.  Prior to teaching at Concord University, she practiced in the child welfare field for twenty-one years.  She received a Master of Social Work degree from West Virginia University and a PhD in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech.  She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and has served on the WVNASW state Board of Directors in the past.   She is currently an emeriti Board member of the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia, after serving many years on the Board including two years as Chair of the Board.   Locally, she serves on the Advisory Council for the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia and on the Board of Directors for Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center.
