CONCORD UNIVERSITY KICKS OFF ‘A SEAT FOR U’ CAMPAIGN
ATHENS, W.Va. – The “A Seat for U” campaign at Concord University is offering an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by naming a new seat in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre. All alumni, faculty, staff, students and the community are invited to participate.
The 782 chairs currently in place are original to the theatre, constructed in the early 1970s. This campaign will provide the funding needed to remove the chairs and replace them with brand new, classic plush seating using traditional Concord maroon-colored fabric. The aisle carpeting will also be replaced with upgraded floor lighting.
The Main Theatre is one of the most public spaces on Concord’s campus. This venue plays host to a variety of events, performances and traditions enjoyed by many at Concord University. Each year the Main Theatre is visited by thousands of students, alumni and individuals from surrounding communities.
“Given the previous chairs were in place for nearly 50 years, this is an excellent opportunity for our constituents to leave a legacy at a lower cost. Our main theater is used for a number of special events throughout the year, including Freshman Convocation, theater productions and keynote speakers, so it’s a very special place. Sponsoring a chair is great way to get involved with a very worthwhile project,” said Alicia Besenyei, Vice President for Advancement.
Each chair will feature donor plates to allow contributors to honor, memorialize or recognize their families or loved ones. The chairs can be purchased for $350 each. Other naming opportunities are also available including sponsoring rows, the balcony or the main stage.

“Our goal is to start construction as early as next summer, depending on the funding. We hope the Mountain Lion family will pull together to make this campaign a success,” said Besenyei.
