CONCORD UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATION ARTS AND MEDIA STUDENTS
HOLD CHARITY EVENT DRIVES FOR CAMPUS FOOD PANTRY

ATHENS, W.Va. Students from the Communication Arts and Media Department held charity event drives at the productions of “The Haunting of Hill House” and “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” to benefit the Concord University Food Pantry. As part of the Organizational Communication course taught by Dr. Cory Williams, students were responsible for fundraising cash donations and nonperishable food items. Total received contributions equated to over $60 and hundreds of boxed and canned goods. All proceeds were gifted to the Food Pantry.

The project director, Katherine Skeldon, states, “I believe our efforts to raise food and money for the Concord University Food Pantry were successful. Our project had a significant positive impact on the pantry as a whole.”

The charity events were advertised by utilizing both broadcast and promotional content that is taught in the curriculum of the Communication Arts and Media Department. This includes the creation of posters and radio public service announcements.

Located in the Nick Rahall Technology Center, the Food Pantry is open to Concord students who may be in need of the resources it provides. Students, faculty, staff and the Athens community are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items, as well as hygiene and toiletry items.
