CONCORD UNIVERSITY HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University hosted its 3rd Annual Business Plan Competition Thursday evening April 15, 2021. The competition was held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic.

Top honors, earning $800, went to Issac Prather, a junior, from Summersville, W.Va. Issac is majoring in Recreation and Tourism Management and minoring in both Business and Entrepreneurship. Issac’s product EZ Lube is a roll on lubricant to help ease the pain that an individual with a prosthetic device might suffer when running. Issac also won the popular vote and $300.

There was a tie for second place this year. Jessica DeVor, a senior, from Bluefield, W.Va., earned $500 with DeVor Delights. DeVor Delights offers customizable bath products where she puts “custom back in customer”. Jessica is majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management, and minoring in Entrepreneurship and HR Management.

Adrian Cabello Espinar, a senior, from Algeciras, Cadiz (Spain) also earned $500 for second place. His idea was turning Wilson Hall, a residence hall at Concord, into Concord Hotel, to be used for those visiting campus for sporting events, admissions, etc. Adrian is majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Management, Management, and Finance. He is minoring in entrepreneurship.

Third place, winning $250, went to Briana Parsons. Briana is a junior from Cross Lanes, W.Va. She is majoring in Biology and Sociology. Her business was Retro Rollers, a unique twist to a roller skating rink.

“I’m so glad I wasn’t having to judge,” stated Dr. Angela Addair, Director of Entrepreneurial Studies.  “Everyone had such unique ideas, and maybe it’s just me, but I think the competition level gets harder each year. Several of these students I have in my classes, and hearing how far they have developed their ideas is so inspiring. I am so proud of every one of them.”
