Sealing Fire Hydrants
(15 participants)
Our Athens fire hydrants are works of art!Help us keep them looking good by painting a sealant on them to protect and preserve the artistic designs.

No Sew Hats (15 participants)
Spread some warmth by creating hats out of fleece material!The hats will be donated to the Bluefield Union Mission for distribution to their clients during the winter months.

Baby Blankets (10 participants)
Knots are a good thing! Make knotted blankets for babies and toddlers. They will be donated to Mary’s Cradle in Bluefield, West Virginia, an agency that serves mothers and children in our local community.

Paracord Bracelets (15 participants)
Let’s show some gratitude! We’ll be making paracord bracelets to be donated to Operation Gratitude.They will distribute them in care packages to troops and first responders. We will also create notes and cards to be sent with the bracelets.

Flowers for the Elderly (15 participants)
Help brighten someone’s day with flowers! Help us paint and decorate flower pots and then plant pretty flowers in them. We will also create notes and cards to go with each pot. The flowers and cards will be donated to local retirement homes.

Flat Teddies (20 participants)
Create some love by cutting, constructing, sewing, and decorating small teddy bears for the Hugs Project!The bears will be given to our military personnel to hand out to children in countries where they serve. The teddy bears are small and “flat” so they can fit in uniform pockets. [Knowledge of sewing is helpful but not required to complete this project.]

Domestic Violence Awareness (10 participants)
Help us help our CU students! We’ll be researching domestic violence facts and statistics and creating small displays to be placed around campus during the month of October for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.Students will also paint small candle holders purple so they can be placed in windows on campus, along with small battery-operated candles, as part of the WV Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s “Lighting the Way to Peace” campaign.

Educational Supplies for Day Care (10 participants)
Let’s help our little Mountain Lions learn to ROAR! We’ll be working in one of the computer labs on campus to create and laminate flash cards of animals, math facts, sight words, and cultural themes for the children at the CU Day Care Center.

Rain date for outdoor projects will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 8:30-11:30 AM. Watch for an email from volunteer@concord.edu in case of postponement due to weather with details!
Projects listed in

will require more physical activity. Students with any limitations should self-identify and choose other service options requiring less physical exertion.
Also, for projects listed in
BLUE
, students should wear old clothing that is suitable for getting dirty and/or paint splattered.
The number in parentheses beside each listing is the maximum number of students who can participate in that project. Please, no exceptions, as we’ll be purchasing supplies and materials for the number of students listed.
Check-In for Student Service Days will be from 8:30-9:00 AM in the Student Center - Ground Floor. Groups will be leaving for their projects promptly at 9:00 AM, so do not be late!!
