West Virginia Head Start State Collaboration Director
TRAINING: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, education, social work, or related field. SUBSTITUTION: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience relevant to the described duties may substitute for the master’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Six years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in the area of assignment, three years of which must have been in the program administration capacity.
KNOWLEDGE: A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Head Start philosophy, programs, standards and funding; understanding of issues relevant to early childhood programs and families served, particularly families eligible to receive Head Start services; issues relevant to collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, and group dynamics is preferred.
ABILITY: Must be able to communicate effectively publicly and in group meeting settings, and prepare written reports and documents. Applicants must be self-motivated and able to take responsibility for initiating and following through on assigned tasks. Applicant must be able to travel to meetings located throughout the state of West Virginia and out of state. Some overnight travel is required. Travel costs are reimbursed.
The Head Start State Collaboration Grant is funded by the Federal Government to establish a point of contact within state government for Head Start programs in the state. The Collaboration Grant has three major objectives:
1. Help build early childhood systems and access to comprehensive services for all low-income children;
2. Encourage widespread collaboration between Head Start and other appropriate programs, services, and initiatives and augment Head Start’s capacity to be a partner in State initiatives on behalf of children and their families;
3. Facilitate the involvement of Head Start in the development of State policies, plans, processes, and decisions affecting the Head Start target population and other low-income families.
Within the framework of these objectives, the State Director of Head Start Collaboration has both national and regional priority areas.
This is a contract position with office located in Charleston WV.
Salary: Salary is negotiable based on experience and education.
