Instrumental Ensembles (Dr. David Ball, conductor)
Ensembles are open to all students at the university and represent multiple disciplines of study.
The Commanders is Concord's select jazz ensemble. The ensemble meets during the Fall and Spring Semesters. The jazz ensemble performs a variety of music from swing to modern jazz compositions. The band performs several concerts annually, with past venues including the Greenbrier Resort in Lewisburg, WV, and the Pipestem Resort State Park. In addition, the Commanders travel to various public schools throughout Virginia and West Virginia, representing Concord University and the music department.
The Concord University Marching Band performs at all home football games, select away games, and participates in multiple parades throughout the year. The Pride has been the featured band at the annual Manassas, VA Christmas Parade and a perennial favorite at the Welch, WV Veteran’s Day Parade. The group performs a wide variety of charts including jazz, rock, pop, and classical.

The Pep Band is the University’s high energy Basketball Band performing at all home games, select away games, and playoffs.
The Concert Band is a large wind and percussion ensemble, performing classics of the band repertoire as well as modern literature. This ensemble meets during the Spring Semester and performs two concerts as well as both fall and spring commencements. The Concert Band regularly features guest artists. During the spring of 2017 we were fortunate to have Dr. Jay Crone from Virginia Tech as our trombone soloist, and Captain Brian Walden, Director of Bands at Marshal University as a guest conductor.
The Concord Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Ben Cantrell. Performances are held in the Alexander Theater in Fine Arts Center. The percussion ensemble has performed a variety of musical repertoire from authentic hand drumming to the music of John Cage. The ensemble has also premiered new compositions from students and faculty alike. Members of the ensemble teach locally in the surrounding public schools and participate in volunteer outreach performances.
Vocal Ensembles (Dr. Kelly Hudson, conductor)
The Collegiate Choir is an ensemble, open to all college students, that performs a wide variety of a capella and accompanied choral literature. This choir performs two concerts a semester both on the CU Campus, and surrounding areas. The ensemble also focuses on collaboration within the department of Fine Arts, and with local composers.
ConChords (Chamber Singers)
This elite chamber group features both applied voice majors and non-music majors. Interested students must successfully complete a rigorous audition process to become members. The men and women of this group perform a wide variety of acapella music, from pop and jazz numbers as well as traditional choral literature. The ConChords are the premier performing group of Concord University, and sing on tour within the states and internationally.
