Harvard Professor to Speak at Concord March 23

Athens, W.Va. - Dr. Bridget Long, assistant professor of education of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will be presenting a lecture to the public at Concord College, Friday, March 23, 12:00 p.m. in the Main Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.

Her presentation will be on Tuition Subsidies and Merit Aid: Their Effects on Access, Fairness and Equality.

Trained as an economist, Professor Long will examine how economics affect educational issues. She will also discuss how government subsidies are distributed among students from different backgrounds and the effectiveness and equity of financial aid programs. Her presentation should provide useful information to anyone interested in higher education, scholarship programs similar to the “PROMISE” model, and other financial aid topics.

Admission to the lecture is free to the public.

The event is co-sponsored by the Harvard Club of West Virginia, Concord College, Bluefield State College, West Virginia State College and The West Virginia Humanities Council.
