9-11 Memorialized at Concord College, Service Will be Thursday Evening

Athens, W. Va. – Concord College will be hosting a candlelight memorial service on Thursday, September 11 at 9 p.m. near Wilson Hall. Prior to the service, students, faculty, staff and guests to the campus may write personal comments about their memories of 9-11 on posters that will be used to construct a “paper quilt” in memory of the victims of the attack on America.

Abe Lilly, event coordinator and resident director for South Tours will serve as moderator for the candlelight memorial where attendees will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings about 9-11.

The general public is invited to attend the candlelight memorial service and contribute to the “paper quilt.”

At 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 American Airlines flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. This first crash was believed to be an accident until United Airlines flight 175 crashed into the south tower at 9:03 a.m. Two additional crashes occurred that day, in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., resulting in the worst terrorist attack in the history of America.
