Concord University’s Collegiate Singers to Perform This Weekend

Athens, W.Va. - Concord University’s Collegiate Singers will perform two concerts this coming weekend, the first on Sunday, April 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Princeton, and the second on Monday, April 25 in the Alexander Fine Arts Center, H.C. Paul Theater. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public with free admission.

Dr. Christopher Ryder, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, is the director of the Collegiate Singers. Ms. Betty Wilson, who is also a member of the Concord University music faculty, accompanies the choir on piano. Currently, the choir is comprised of approximately 70 Concord students.

The group will be performing poetry set to music. Poets include Rainer Maria Rilke, William Blake, Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Frost, Robert Burns, E.E. Cummings, John Donne, Langston Hughes, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Lewis Carroll, and Garcilaso de la Vega. Composers include Morten Lauridsen, Theron Kirk, Randall Stroope, Joseph Martin, Gwyneth Walker, James Mulholland, Randall Thompson, Williametta Spencer, Sam Pottle, and Frank Ahrold.
