Concord University Announces Faculty/Staff Additions and Changes at Fall Opening Ceremony

Athens, W.Va. - Dr. Dean Turner, vice president and academic dean, announced faculty and staff additions and changes at the opening ceremony of Concord University on Thursday, August 17. The opening ceremony was held in the Student Center Ballroom.

The following persons joined the University as full-time faculty:

Ms. Andrea E. Campbell – Assistant Professor of Education. B.S., Virginia Tech; M.Ed., East Carolina University. Lives in Princeton, West Virginia.

Dr. David N. Chambers – Assistant Professor of Biology. B.S., Texas A&M University; Ph.D., Cornell University. Comes here from Hulbert, Oklahoma.

Dr. Douglas A. Creer – Assistant Professor of Biology. B.S., Brigham Young University; Ph.D., Washington University. Comes here from Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Rebecca N. “Niki” Harvey – non-tenure track Assistant Athletic Trainer/Instructor in Athletic Training. B.S., Concord University. Lives in Princeton, West Virginia.

Ms. Angela Lamb (Started January 2006) – non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Recreation and Tourism Management. B.S., Concord University; M.S., West Virginia University. Lives in Jane Lew, West Virginia.

Dr. Thomas J. McKenna – Assistant Professor of Philosophy and History. B.A., University of Delaware; M.A., St. Bonaventure University; Ph.D., Yale University. Comes here from Middletown, Delaware.

Dr. Dianna Ross – Associate Professor of Accounting. B.A., Hollins University; M.P.A., University of Texas; Ph.D., Virginia Tech. Comes here from San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Alan K. Smothers (Started January 2006) – non-tenure track Associate Professor of Computer Science. B.A. and M.S., West Virginia University. Comes here from Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Mr. Cory D. Williams – Assistant Professor of Communication Arts. B.A., Lipscomb University; M.A., Purdue University; Ph.D. (Expected 2006), Duquesne University. Comes here from Lexington, Kentucky.

Ms. Susan Williams (Started January 2006) – Assistant Professor of Recreation and Tourism Management. B.A., Concord University, M.A., Marshall University, Ph.D. (Expected 2006), West Virginia University. Taught adjunct for Concord and full-time 2002-03. Lives in Princeton, West Virginia.

Dr. Ellen Darden, Dr. Karen Griffee, Dr. Kathy Hawks, and Dr. Darrin Martin received tenure.

Dr. Darla Wise will serve as chair of the biology department.

The status for Mr. David Campbell changed from temporary to tenure track.

The following changes were made among Concord University’s staff between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006: Sherrie McMillian was hired as administrative secretary for Placement and Career Services on March 16, 2005, Andrea Webb was hired as Accounting Assistant I on August 8, 2005, Jeffrey Shumaker was hired as Physical Plant Director on August 15, 2005, Matthew McGraw was hired as Admissions Counselor on August 16, 2005, Douglas Snuffer was hired as Research Assistant II for the McNair Program on December 16, 2005, Sharon Manzo was promoted to Administrative Assistant to the President on January 10, 2006, and Allen Smith was hired as Admissions Counselor on January 17, 2006.

Dr. Turner said, “This is a time of new beginnings and many new opportunities. We are seeing the rise of the Rahall Technology Center and a new road near the University Point area, and parking will certainly be unbelievable next week with all the construction!”

The President of the University, Dr. Jerry Beasley, commented: “We have exciting times ahead. Thanks so much to those who have helped with summer advising, building and maintenance, the TRIO programs and travel abroad…. Now, our work begins.”
