June O. Shott to be Grand Marshal at CU Homecoming Parade

Athens, W.Va. – June O. Shott will be the grand marshal for the Concord University homecoming parade, slated for Thursday, October 5. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Vermillion Street in Athens.

Following the parade, a bonfire and pep rally will be held in the "valley" (behind the Student Center) on campus.

"Mrs. Shott has generously provided funding for a new artificial turf surface for our football field," stated Kati Whittaker, executive director of the Concord University Alumni Association. "We want to honor her and her support of Concord.

"Mrs. Shott will also be recognized at the Concord University homecoming game, to be held Saturday, October 7 in Callaghan Stadium. The new artificial surface has already been described as a 'magic carpet' by local sports writers," concluded Ms. Whittaker.

The Concord University Mountain Lions play the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the new June O. Shott Field in Callaghan Stadium and Mrs. Shott will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

The homecoming planning committee has decided that "Concord: Rocking the Centuries!" will be the theme this year. Floats and homecoming displays will be judged based on the merits of using the theme.

A schedule of homecoming activities may be found on the University's web site: www.concord.edu, click on "Alumni".

A special treat will be in store for long-time Mountain Lion fans—Mr. Harry Finkelman will return to provide play-by-play descriptions of the game between the Mountain Lions and the Golden Eagles. Finkelman served as announcer for the Mountain Lions for 50 years.

Homecoming for 2007 will be Saturday, October 6 and homecoming for 2008 will be Saturday, October 18.
