A Birthday Honor: Matherly Scholarship Available at CU

Athens, W.Va. - Are you worried about finding the “perfect gift” for your parents’ anniversary or other important event? One good son decided to give the gift of a Concord education to worthy students for years to come to honor his mother and to memorialize his father. John Matherly, from, Waynesboro, Va., established a scholarship with the Concord University Foundation, Inc.

“The scholarship was established in my parents’ names for my mother's 85th birthday in April. As three of their children and four of their grandchildren graduated from Concord, that was the only place to establish the scholarship,” said Mr. Matherly.

The four-year scholarship will be awarded through the Concord University Office of Admissions. The criteria for the scholarship are that the student must have shown academic promise and have a demonstrated financial need.

“We hope the scholarship will be used to help deserving students receive a quality education,” said Mr. Matherly.

For more information on applying to Concord University, or for the John L. and Mary M. Matherly scholarship, please contact the Office of Admissions at 1-888-384-5249, 1-304-384-5248, or admissions@concord.edu.
