Concord University Awarding Honorary Degree at Convocation

ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University will award an honorary doctorate to Jaipur, India physician M. L. Swarankar during the Convocation of Scholars and Founders’ Day Celebration on Monday, March 1, 2010. The event will be held at 5 p.m. in the Main Theater of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.

Dr. Swarankar is chairman and managing trustee of the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Jaipur. In December 2009, Dr. Swarankar initiated a pilot project with the college and hospital which allowed four Concord University students and one professor to participate in a one-week international medical shadowing experience at the facility.

Dr. Swarankar specializes in obstetrics, gynecology and microsurgery in infertility and advanced reproductive technology. A physician, scholar and humanitarian, he is known for a life of service based on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi.

The convocation will also offer a time to celebrate Concord’s legacy and honor recipients of academic and service awards. Recognition will be given to members of the campus community including faculty, staff and students for teaching, scholarship/creativity and service.
