Dewey Russell Elimination Dinner Raises Funds For CU Athletes

ATHENS - A large and enthusiastic turnout highlighted the Dewey Russell Elimination Dinner, hosted by Concord University Athletics on the evening of Friday, April 15, 2011.

About 100 CU supporters filled the fellowship hall of the new University Point building to help raise money for Concord’s 17 varsity sports.

The evening’s main event was a raffle, featuring cash prizes ranging up to the $1500 grand prize – won by Stacey Hicks of Princeton. Hicks graciously donated the prize back to Concord Athletics.

Retiring Concord men’s basketball head coach Steve Cox was the dinner’s master of ceremonies. The menu included prime rib, shrimp and chicken cordon bleu, with chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert.

The event was named in honor of Dewey Russell, who graduated from Concord in 1971 and became a prominent local businessman and the mayor of Princeton.
