ATHENS, W.Va. - National track and field champion Shawnee Carnett will be honored in a halftime ceremony during the Concord University Mountain Lions’ season opener Saturday, Sept. 3. Carnett won the women’s 800 meter at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Outdoor National Championships in May.

Her victory is Concord’s first-ever NCAA national championship, and the first in women’s track and field for the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since the conference moved from the NAIA to the NCAA in 1994.

Concord University Athletics will present a championship ring to Carnett at the halftime recognition.

The Mountain Lions take on the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears in the football contest at Callaghan Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
