ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University’s Mountain Lions take on the Shepherd University Rams in the 2011 Rotary Bowl Saturday, Oct. 1 at Callaghan Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

The Concord University Department of Athletics has joined with the Rotary Club of Princeton, W.Va. for the annual event. A portion of Saturday’s gate proceeds go toward the charitable efforts of the local Rotary Club which include scholarships.

This year’s bowl brings a change of venue. After a brief stint at Hunnicutt Stadium in Princeton, the football competition is moving to the Mountain Lions home turf in Athens. In 2009, Concord defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 35-26. Last year, the Mountain Lions downed Fairmont State 41-17.

This year’s matchup features the only two WVIAC teams with undefeated records in conference play. Concord improved to 2-0 in the league with a 38-7 Homecoming win over West Virginia State last Saturday afternoon. Shepherd kept its record unblemished with a 59-10 home victory over the University of Charleston. The Rams are ranked #3 in the nation in the most recent American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll.

The Concord University Office of Advancement will host a tailgate from noon until halftime. For more information on the tailgate email or call 304-384-6311.

Tickets for the football game are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Concord students are admitted free with valid University identification.
