ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University Athletic Department has designated the Mountain Lions’ football game against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Saturday, Nov. 12, as “Military Appreciation Day” and “Championship Camo Day.”

The contest will decide the 2011 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and the league’s representative to the NCAA playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at June O. Shott Field at Callaghan Stadium on the CU campus in Athens, W.Va.

Concord Athletic Director Kevin Garrett has announced that all military personnel, active and retired, will get free admission to Saturday’s game with a valid military ID. Concord fans are encouraged to wear camouflage to the game, to acknowledge the service of our nation’s soldiers.

“We wanted to show our appreciation for everything our veterans and active-duty personnel have done for our country,” Garrett said. “The Veterans Day weekend is the perfect time for this event. Plus, we’re playing for conference championship and we’re looking forward to a tremendous game. We’d love for our soldiers to come out and enjoy the experience.”

Concord is 6-3 this season, 6-1 in the WVIAC. West Virginia Wesleyan is 9-1, 6-1 and ranked #19 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II national poll. The Mountain Lions are seeking their first WVIAC title since 1990.

Adding to game day festivities is a tailgate for Concord alumni and friends sponsored by the Office of Advancement. The tailgate will be held from 12 noon until halftime at Callaghan Stadium. Look for the CU tent in the parking lot near the stadium entrance.

For more information on the tailgate contact the Office of Advancement at or 304-384-6311.
