Concord University Hosting College Goal Sunday in Athens, Beckley
CONCORD UNIVERSITY HOSTING COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY
IN ATHENS, BECKLEY
ATHENS, W.Va. – Individuals planning to attend college in the fall of 2012 – regardless of age or income – are invited to participate in College Goal SundaySM workshops at Concord University’s Athens and Beckley campuses on Feb. 12.
College Goal Sunday is an opportunity for students and families to receive free, confidential help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event, which offers one-on-one help from financial aid professionals, is also open to students already enrolled in college.
Concord University is one of 19 locations across West Virginia hosting College Goal SundaySM workshops. The session on the Athens campus will be held in the John and Lucia Pais Family Fellowship Hall in University Point from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Concord representatives will staff a workshop at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center (off of I-64 in Beaver) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in room W-32.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Participants can pre-register for an appointment at www.cfwv.com
Students and families participating should bring their social security numbers and 2011 tax records. Those who have not yet completed their 2011 taxes can bring their 2010 forms. For a complete list of what to bring visit www.cfwv.com
Free tax preparation will be provided on-site in Athens by VITA officials for students and families completing a FAFSA that day. This service is available for these persons only and certain restrictions apply.
Students who participate in College Goal Sunday will be entered for a chance to win an Apple iPad. Nineteen iPads are being given away – one per College Goal Sunday location.
The College Goal SundaySM program was created by the Indiana Financial Aid Association with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc. and with supplemental support from the Lumina Foundation for Education.
College Goal Sunday West Virginia is coordinated by the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), an initiative of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, in conjunction with the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia, the West Virginia Department of Education and West Virginia GEAR UP.
