ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will hold a Convocation of Scholars and Founders’ Day Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. The event begins at 1 p.m. in the Main Theatre of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.

The gathering marks Concord’s 140th anniversary. On Feb. 28, 1872 the school received its charter from the West Virginia Legislature.
A proclamation denoting 2012 as “The Year of the Alumni” at Concord University will be issued during the program. The Founders’ Day Remarks are being presented by Princeton, W.Va. attorney Robert E. Holroyd.

A marker recognizing Holroyd Hall will be unveiled during the ceremony. The marker will be placed at the corner of Vermillion and Cooper streets in Athens, former site of the Concord landmark, at a later date.

The convocation also offers a time to honor recipients of academic and service awards. Recognition will be given to members of the campus community including faculty, staff and students for teaching, scholarship, creativity and service.

The public is invited to attend the celebration. For more information contact Kati Whittaker-Hatfield, special events coordinator, at 304-384-6286 or
