ATHENS, W.Va. - For a second year, Concord University has joined the Remembrance Day National Roll Call project that honors American service men and women through simultaneous ceremonies across the nation.

On Monday, Nov. 12, the official holiday following Veterans Day on Nov. 11, campus and community volunteers at 93 colleges and universities in 37 states across the nation will read the names of U.S. military personnel. Each campus has organized its own ceremony to recognize those who have served, are serving, and those who died in service to the nation. All participating campuses will observe a simultaneous nationwide minute of silence at 11 a.m. PST.

The Concord University observance will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Subway Stage area of the Student Center. Volunteers will read the names of fallen soldiers in 15-minute intervals until all 6,500 names have been announced.

The campus community is encouraged to participate. Volunteers can sign up for time slots by visiting the following link:

The Remembrance Day National Roll Call, which began in 2011, is sponsored nationally by the Veterans Knowledge Community of NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. NASPA is a 12,000-member association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs professionals. The Veterans Knowledge Community (VKC) mission is to advocate for best practices to help student veterans transition to college and succeed.

Lt. Col. (Ret) Brett Morris, the National Roll Call coordinator, said, “We want to rally campus communities across the nation to send a message to the troops currently serving - that we, as a national body of students, have not forgotten their sacrifices, or those of their fallen brethren.”
