SENATOR MANCHIN VISITING CONCORD UNIVERSITY
DURING ‘STANDING UP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION’ TOUR
ATHENS, W.Va. - U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will visit Concord University on Friday, Jan. 18 as part of his weeklong “Standing Up for the Next Generation” tour. Senator Manchin will participate in a roundtable discussion with Concord administrators, faculty, students and veterans at 3:30 p.m. in the State Room of the Jerry and Jean Beasley Student Center.
The statewide tour slated for kickoff on Tuesday will highlight the importance of cutting out-of-control government spending but sustaining investments in the future, keeping children safe in school, advancing research and technology and improving efforts to hire unemployed veterans.
“I’ve always said that government can do two things with your money: spend it or invest it. The truth is, the federal government has been doing too much spending and not enough investing. As we learned when I was Governor, making smart investments is the best way to create good jobs and grow the economy both in our state and our nation,” Senator Manchin said. “Our state has done the heavy lifting to build this nation into the great power that it is today, and no matter what, I will do everything in my power to make sure that our children will have more opportunities in this world than my generation. On this statewide tour, I look forward to meeting with West Virginia business leaders, labor organizers, education administrators, students and our brave veterans to begin working toward rebuilding a better America.”
The tour also includes stops in Charleston, Clarksburg and Rock Creek.
