Congressman Nick J. Rahall and the Third District Accelerator Team Present the Experience WV Mobile Application

ATHENS, W.Va. - Congressman Nick J. Rahall and the Third District Accelerator program will unveil the first mobile application from the Third District Accelerator program during a press conference at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Erma C. Byrd Higher Education Center in Beckley, W.Va. Created for Experience WV, the app will highlight a series of workshops and performances throughout southern West Virginia during the week of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

“Let’s be clear, this is not your father’s Jamboree. My message to Scouts and their families is ‘be prepared’ for some fun and challenging new Appalachian trails to blaze. By downloading the new Experience WV App, they will be just a touch away from discovering the vast wonders of West Virginia. With information about every local event and program able to be accessed through this new App, scouting families can look forward to being plugged in to all the excitement during the most tech-connected Jamboree in history,” said Congressman Nick Rahall (D-WV).

Concord University, Marshall University, the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI), the Natural Capital Investment Fund and TechConnect West Virginia are collaborating to target and empower entrepreneurs in tourism and advanced manufacturing across southern West Virginia. The Third District Accelerator provides integrated business support efforts and technical assistance, including grantsmanship workshops, training and workforce development, e-business marketing and entrepreneurial support, and advanced manufacturing tools/capabilities.

“Experience West Virginia is a new initiative that celebrates everything that is great about our state. Whether guests are familiar with mountain culture or just learning about the area, they’re sure to find something of interest. The agenda is chock full of exciting offerings. This mobile app gives people a one-stop shop to review all of our entertaining and educational workshops,” explained Holly Clark, Program Director. “This app will be a guide to all things Appalachia during the week of the Jamboree.”

Experience West Virginia is an initiative sponsored by Bluefield State College, Concord University, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, West Virginia State University, New River Gorge Regional Development Authority, WV Campus Compact, and three Community and Technical Colleges – Bridgemont, New River and Southern West Virginia. Programming is open to all visitors, local residents and Boy Scouts and their families.
