Concord University Division Of Business To Hold Twentieth Annual Concord Business Challenge
ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Division of Business will host the Twentieth Annual Concord Business Challenge (CBC) on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 on the Athens campus. The Business Challenge is designed to give high school students an opportunity to test their business knowledge base and teachers an opportunity to learn about Entrepreneurial Initiatives at Concord University and in West Virginia.
Approximately 300 junior and senior high school students are expected to attend the Business Challenge from West Virginia and surrounding states.
Activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast in the lobby of the Alexander Fine Arts Center followed by a welcome from Concord Interim President Dr. Kendra Boggess and Division of Business Chair Dr. Susan Robinett. The first testing sessions will begin promptly at 9:20 a.m. with an awards ceremony at noon in the Alexander Fine Arts Main Theatre.
A high school junior or senior attending the Concord Business Challenge may compete for one of two scholarships. The two winners will be selected based on their Business Challenge scholarship examination performance. The two students scoring the highest on the exam will qualify for a $1,000 per year scholarship when they enroll full-time at Concord University. Each winner must meet admissions criteria established by the University for entering freshmen. After the students’ first academic year, the scholarship will be renewed if the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and remains in good standing with the University. The scholarship will be renewable for up to eight semesters. The maximum total award could be $4,000 for each winner.
Concord’s Admissions Office will be the primary administrator of the award and will work in cooperation with the business faculty in selecting the winners.
Dr. Mohan Pokharel, Division of Business professor of management at Concord University, will present “Entrepreneurial Initiatives at Concord University and in West Virginia” to teachers, counselors, principals and faculty in the Nick J. Rahall Technology Center.
