ATHENS, W.Va. – A finalist in the 2015 Top Teacher Search on LIVE with Kelly and Michael will speak at Concord University on Saturday, May 16.

Tal Thompson, who was one of four finalists in the competition, is a fourth grade teacher at Lake Carolina Elementary School Upper Campus in Blythewood, S.C.

Mr. Thompson will be presenting his unique and successful style of teaching to fourth and fifth grade teachers in Mercer County who participated in a 2014-15 grant project supported by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Improving Teacher Quality State Grants. His presentation will be held at Concord University’s University Point Pais Fellowship Hall.

Known for providing a fun and exciting learning environment, Mr. Thompson enlivens his lessons with song and dance. His enthusiasm and love of teaching bring a special energy to the classroom.

Dr. Rick Druggish, Chair of the Division of Education at Concord, stated, “I had the privilege to see Ron Clark, founder of the Ron Clark Academy, at a conference in Atlanta in March. I thought, ‘Wow, I’d love for all teachers to learn from him.’ Then, I went to a presentation by Tal Thompson at the same conference. Tal has studied with Mr. Clark. I knew I couldn’t get Ron Clark to come to Concord, but I thought I would try really hard to get Tal here to share his successful teaching strategies. I know our teachers are in for an inspiration.”

Mr. Thompson has connections to West Virginia, having lived in Martinsburg and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. He is excited about coming home.
