COAL HERITAGE LECTURE SERIES PRESENTS
IMAGES OF THE DON BLANKENSHIP TRIAL BY JEFF PIERSON
ATHENS, W.Va. – Artist Jeff Pierson will present his courtroom sketches of the Don Blankenship trial and discuss the events of the trial at the next installment of the Coal Heritage Lecture Series. His presentation will take place on April 4 at 7 p.m. in Room E10 of the Erma Byrd Center in Beaver, W.Va. This event is free and open to the public.
The Coal Heritage Lecture Series is presented by the Coal Heritage Highway Authority and Concord University’s Beckley campus.
Don Blankenship was the CEO of Massey Energy at the time of the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. Pierson was hired by the media to capture images of the trial because federal court criminal trials do not allow cameras in the courtroom.
A resident of Charleston, W.Va., Pierson is an art teacher, children’s book illustrator and painter of outdoor murals. He has also served as Director of Arts of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
