ATHENS, W.Va. – Work is underway on the track at Concord University to give the facility a new surface.

The replacement project began on May 9, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed on Aug 5, 2016. The outdoor track is located in Callaghan Stadium on Concord’s Athens campus.

Among the work being done is removing the surface and milling down the asphalt underneath, putting down new asphalt and the creation of a new, high quality surface.

“With the new track we hope to once again host collegiate and high school events, bringing potential students, alumni, donors and friends to our beautiful campus,” said Kevin Garrett, Concord University Athletic Director.

The entire track replacement project is being funded through donations. Benefactors of the project include: the Hugh I. Shott, Jr. Foundation, the Preservati Family Charitable Trust Foundation, the June Oblinger Shott Foundation, The Pace Family Foundation, and Donnie and Linda Holcomb.

Beynon Sports Surfaces, Inc., of Hunt Valley, Md. is the contractor for the project. Jim Christie with Larson Design Group located in Morgantown, W.Va. is serving as the architect.
