ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University is serving as an official Weight Management Program site for the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA). Individuals in the Concord community and the surrounding area with PEIA Preferred Provider Benefit Insurance wanting to lose weight and become healthier are invited to apply to participate in the program.

To be eligible to participate an individual must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or greater or a waist circumference of 35 inches or greater (for women) or 40 inches or greater (for men); willingness to make a permanent lifestyle change; and approval from their physician or nurse practitioner.

Additionally, participants cannot have recently undergone bariatric or lap band surgery and cannot have exhausted this benefit previously.

Services provided through the program include individualized services from a registered dietitian to help plan a personal diet and dietary lifestyle changes; individualized services from an exercise physiologist to measure personal health status and improvements made throughout the program; monthly individualized services from a personal trainer to plan, teach and coach participants through a personalized fitness program; professional phone coaching through PEIA; and access to Concord University’s fitness facilities.
