ATHENS, W.Va. – FAFSA Sunday offers an opportunity for students and their families to receive free, confidential help in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The event will be held on Concord University’s Athens campus on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the GRIP Center, located on the ground floor of the Rahall Technology Center.

Financial Aid staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist with FAFSA completion. All current Concord students, community college students, and any high school senior – even students who do not plan on attending Concord – are invited to participate.

Filling out the FAFSA each year is a requirement for all students who receive, or hope to receive, any type of federal student financial aid (e.g. Pell grant, federally-insured student loans, Federal Work Study, etc.). All students who are beginning or continuing postsecondary education should complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA is also required for students to be considered for state financial aid, including the WV Higher Education Grant (WVHEG) and first-time PROMISE Scholars.

FAFSA availability has changed. Previously, the FAFSA was not available until Jan. 1, but as of Oct. 1 of this year, completing the form for the 2017-2018 academic year is now possible.

In addition to earlier access, filers will use their 2015 income information – the same data as last year’s FAFSA. This means that students/parents will not need to estimate their 2016 income or taxes, since 2015 taxes are complete.

Students and families participating should bring their FSA ID, social security number, and 2015 tax records.

Attendees at Concord’s FAFSA Sunday will be entered to win one of two $500 CU scholarships and other door prizes. Please note that scholarships will only be given to registered Concord students or high school students who have applied and will attend CU. The scholarships are good only at Concord University.
