Concord University Student Mikayla Akers Named Finalist In WV Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition

CONCORD UNIVERSITY STUDENT MIKAYLA AKERS NAMED FINALIST
IN WV STATEWIDE COLLEGIATE BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University student Mikayla Akers has advanced to the final round in the twelfth annual West Virginia Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition.
She was one of the top 18 entries, six in each of the following three categories: Hospitality and Tourism, Lifestyle and Innovation, and STEM/Technology. Overall, there were 292 initial entries into the competition. The semi-final round consisted of 30 entries, 10 for each category. Mikayla is a sophomore from Beckley, WV, double majoring in Accounting and Management.
Mikayla’s business plan entry was for Inspiration Bakery. Concord University had the second highest number of entries into the competition, with a total of 45 this year. The semi-final round took place on Nov. 10, 2017 at West Virginia Wesleyan College. The final round will take place on April 20, 2018 at West Virginia University.
Angela Addair, Assistant Professor of Management, is Concord’s campus liaison for the West Virginia Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition. The competition gives students the opportunity to start a business while having the support of business professionals, along with additional resources, to boost their chances of being successful. Top finishers in each category receive a $10,000 prize, accounting and legal assistance, as well as other resources to help them with their business venture.
The West Virginia Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition is hosted by the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics BrickStreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
