CONCORD UNIVERSITY HOSTING ANNUAL WELLNESS FAIR
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will hold its annual Wellness Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ballroom located on the 3rd floor of the Student Center on the Athens campus. This event is free and open to the public.
The Wellness Fair, sponsored by the CU Wellness Committee, will feature a variety of activities including: 10 to 15-minute mini courses in CrossFit, mindfulness, and yoga, along with vendors, flu shots, giveaways, and more.
The mini CrossFit class will begin at 10:50 a.m. and be taught by Death by CrossFit. The mini Yoga class will begin at 11:50 a.m. and will be taught by adjunct Concord University Instructor Jeri Elmore. There will be three mindfulness classes, beginning at 10:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m., and 12:50 p.m., all led by the Concord University Social Work Club.
Groups that will have informational tables at the event include: Concord University Master of Arts in Health Promotion, Concord University Master of Social Work, Death by CrossFit, the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office, West Virginia Road Runners, Complete Nutrition, Against Tobacco, and more. Against Tobacco will be raffling off a Fitbit at the event. Health and Physical Education students will also be hosting games of cornhole for attendees.
The Mercer County Health Department will be on hand to provide flu shots. Those wanting to receive their flu shot will need to provide proof of insurance or pay $25. If there is anyone who would like a flu shot but is uninsured or cannot afford one, the Mercer County Health Department can offer them for free at the event.
The coordinator of the Wellness Fair, Dr. Jill Nolan, wants to encourage all Concord students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the community, to attend the event.
Dr. Nolan says “I am looking forward to this year’s Wellness Fair. It is a great opportunity for campus and the community to get their flu shots and see what health and wellness resources are available to them in the area.”
