Alumna Erin Barnett to Offer Keynote Address



ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University will hold a Founders’ Day Celebration on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. The event begins at 3 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center.


The gathering marks Concord’s 147th anniversary. On Feb. 28, 1872 the school received its charter from the West Virginia Legislature.     


Concord graduate Erin Barnett will offer the keynote address. An award winning journalist, Erin earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism from Concord in 2009. She currently co-hosts the lifestyle show “Living East Tennessee” which airs weekdays on ABC affiliate WATE out of Knoxville, TN. Erin previously worked as a reporter and anchor at a CBS affiliate in Knoxville, WSLS in Roanoke, VA and WVNS in Ghent, WV.


Erin grew up in Giles County, Virginia.  She is married to Mario Azevedo II.  They have a 2-year-old son, Mario Azevedo III. 


The Founders’ Day celebration also offers a time to honor faculty, staff and students. Presidential Excellence Awards will be presented to individuals who have demonstrated dedication and service to Concord University and the community.


A reception will follow the program in the Fine Arts Center lobby. The public is invited to attend the celebration at no charge.
