Concord University Librarian Wins Award

Athens, W.Va. - David E. Shumate, a staff librarian of Concord University and resident of Athens was awarded a $1,000 graduate scholarship by the West Virginia Library Association at its annual convention on October 2, 2006.

The WVLA scholarship was presented to support his graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where he is enrolled in the online program leading to the Master’s Degree in Library Science. In addition to this award, Shumate has received J. Frank Marsh Library Staff Development Awards and has completed a course of study at the Rutgers University Preservation Institute.

Shumate began his employment at the Marsh Library in 1999 as a part time paraprofessional and has won promotions to his present role as staff librarian and manager of the University Archive. He is majoring in archival management at the University of Wisconsin and plans to complete his master’s degree within the next three to four years.
