Roth Scholarship Writing Competition Results Announced

Athens, W.Va. – Amber McCoy, a first-year Concord University student from Wilmington, Del., has been awarded the 2007-08 David S. Roth Memorial Scholarship as the winner of an annual writing competition open to all Concord students. McCoy is pursuing a B.S. Education degree in Special Education.

Selected on the basis of their outstanding writing skills, the finalists in this year's competition represented a variety of academic majors and geographic areas:

Runner-up was Ashleigh Glass (history with an emphasis in philosophy) of New Cumberland. Honorable mention was awarded to Jessica Boggs (athletic training) of Parkersburg. The other finalists were Katie Litchfield (business management) of Apple Grove; Erin McClung (elementary education) of Mt. Lookout; Cynthia Stover (chemistry/biology) of Greenville; and Derek White (English education 5-adult) of Princeton.

The Roth Scholarship honors the memory of Professor David S. Roth, who taught English and journalism at Concord University from 1969 until 1986. Dr. Roth's wide-ranging interests and enthusiasm for teaching writing inspired his family and colleagues to establish the David S. Roth Memorial Scholarship Fund.
