CU Director of Enrollment Elected President of Association

Athens, W.Va. – Kent Gamble, director of enrollment at Concord University, was recently elected the 2008 president of the West Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ACRAO) at the organization’s annual conference in Morgantown. The conference was held October 3 through October 5.

The organization exists, both nationwide and statewide, for admissions counselors and registrars from private, public, and community institutions to share information, discuss changes in programs, and continue professional development opportunities on a yearly basis.

Gamble has worked in higher education for 10 years and has been a member of ACRAO for six of those years. Within the organization he has held other positions such as college day committee member and chairperson. Last year he held the position of president-elect. His current responsibility as president includes planning the annual statewide conference, which has been held in various cities across the state since the association’s inception in 1932.

During his tenure as president, Gamble plans to increase membership and encourage younger members to become more active, while strengthening the annual conference by following national directives. He will also be attending the annual national ACRAO conference in Miami in March 2008.

Gamble mentioned his reasons for involvement in the association. “I do this to further Concord as an institution, ACRAO as a program, and higher education in West Virginia,” he said. “The main goal is to advance post-secondary educational opportunities across the state.” If one school is unable to meet a student’s needs, that school may suggest other in-state institutions they have been introduced to within ACRAO. Members of ACRAO use their peers and colleagues as resources for information to advance both individual schools and the association, thus furthering opportunities for higher education.

Involvement in the association also brings opportunities for professional development for younger members just beginning a career in the field. Gamble named several of Concord’s admissions counselors who have taken membership and leadership roles within ACRAO committees.

More information on ACRAO can be found on both the state website ( and the national website: (
