Scholarship Money Raised in 20th Annual Homer Ball Golf Tourney

Athens, W.Va. – As the sun rose over the 18-hole golf course at the Pipestem Resort State Park, 76 golfers gathered around to play the 20th annual Homer Ball Golf Tournament.

The event was used to raise money for scholarships for Concord University. According to Sherry Brogan, organizer, approximately $12,000 was raised at this event.

Phillip Ball said, “This semester, a total of 42 students who attended Concord received money from this tournament.”

A total of 19 foursomes competed in the tournament. Placing first was Seaver Funeral Home with Chris Howard’s foursome coming in second.

Prizes were also given out during a drawing at lunch. Winning the grand prize of a two nights stay at The Greenbrier Resort was Jackie Tipton from City National Princeton.

Other prizes including a week’s stay in Sunset Beach N.C., a foursome to Stonewall Resort, Fountain Springs, Twin Falls State Park, and Pipestem State Resort Park were given out.

Prizes were also donated by Princeton Health and Fitness, Texas Steakhouse and Saloon, Taste of Memphis, Mountaineer Bowling Lanes, First Community Bank, Bill Carper, Concord Athletics, Concord Bookstore, Beckley Register-Herald, and Freedom Motor Sports.
