Annual Honor Choir Festival Concert Set For Nov. 4 at Concord

ATHENS – The Concord University Department of Music will present its annual Honor Choir Festival Concert Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center’s main theater. The Fine Arts Center is located on Concord’s campus at 1000 Vermillion Street in Athens.

Over 150 high school choral singers from West Virginia and Virginia have been selected to attend the festival by their choral directors. Bluefield, Giles, Greenbrier East, PikeView, Princeton, Pulaski County, Shady Spring and William Fleming high schools are participating in the day-long festival.

Joshua Miller, assistant professor of music and director of vocal studies at Concord University, said, “Students will have the opportunity to work with two talented guest conductors,” Ms. Caron Daley from the University of Toronto will conduct the Women’s Honor Choir, and Mr. Allen Kade from Princeton High School will conduct the Men’s Honor Choir.

The concert audience will enjoy performances of “America the Beautiful” and “Country Roads” among many other songs. “All of the high school singers will perform during the evening then join forces with the CU Collegiate Singers to perform two Mormon Tabernacle Choir folk songs,” Miller said.
