Concord University Mourning Loss of Dennis Blankenship

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University is mourning the loss of Dennis “Cowboy” Wayne Blankenship. A custodian on Concord’s Athens campus, Blankenship passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012.

Born May 9, 1959 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Milburn “Joe” Hoge Blankenship and Frances Evelyn Smith Blankenship. He was a retired masonry worker and had been a lifelong resident of the Elgood area.

Survivors include his wife and friend, Terry Dunn Blankenship of Pettrey; one son, Jesse Wayne Blankenship and wife, Savannah of Pettrey; two grandchildren, Emma Renae Blankenship and Elijah Blankenship, both of Pettrey; one brother, Milburn Blankenship and wife, Barbara of Princeton; and two sisters, Connie Brady of Princeton and Ciana White of Christiansburg, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale. Burial will follow at the Elgood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be “Big Mark” Miller, “Jim Bob” Bowles, Eddie Farley, Alvin Hager II, Hobbit Pettrey, Mark Belcher, David Brunk, and Gary Johnson. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday.
