ATHENS, W.Va. - Volunteers from Concord University are participating in Make A Difference Day again this year with activities planned at four area locations. The national day set aside each year to help others is being held Saturday, Oct. 27.

Concord’s volunteer efforts are organized by the University’s Bonner Scholars Program. Bonner Coordinator Sharde Hardy said Concord representatives are helping with projects at four sites in southern, West Virginia: Tender Mercies Ministries in Princeton; Pipestem State Park in Summers County; the Wade Center in Bluefield; and Concord’s Child Development Center.

Concord crews will work from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free transportation and lunch will be provided to the volunteers.

Tender Mercies Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides food and guidance, at no cost, to persons in need in the Princeton area. Volunteers will assist with painting, cleaning and organizing the food pantry. Volunteers should meet at the Bonner House at 8:30 a.m.

Activities at Pipestem State Park include campsite restoration and leaf removal. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Bonner House and should wear closed-toe shoes.

The Wade Center exists to promote and nurture the growth of the children, teens and young adults of the greater Bluefield community through practical programs and mentoring relationships. Volunteers will be assisting with organizing, painting and cleaning and should meet at the Bonner House at 8:30 a.m.

The Child Development Center, located on campus, serves approximately 64 families from Concord University and the surrounding community. Volunteers will be cleaning, organizing and painting. Individuals with artistic ability are encouraged to volunteer at the CDC. Volunteers should meet at the Child Development Center at 9 a.m.
