ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University’s Collegiate Singers will be featured in a spring concert on Saturday, May 4. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center’s Main Auditorium. The Alexander Fine Arts Center is located on Concord’s Athens, W.Va. campus at 1000 Vermillion Street.

The Collegiate Singers will be performing in a concert entitled “The Sacred and the Mystic.” This will feature the members of the Concord University choir along with featured student soloists: Allison Whitener, Lindsey Hamilton, Mary Beth Miller and Daniel Taylor; and faculty member Dr. T. Mainland.

The concert will be combining texts from the Gospels of Matthew and John, an Ave Maria paired with the Angelus Domini, and texts from Dorothy Walters, a poet-mystic. The choir will also be premiering a new work by Athens resident G. Keith Circle for choir and organ. Dr. Keely Rhodes, director of vocal studies says she is “excited to have the Concord University Choirs premiere this new work by a local musician.”

On behalf of Concord University and the music program, the Collegiate Singers invite and encourage the community to attend this event. There is no admission charge, however the groups will be accepting donations during the concert to help pay for future choral events.

This year’s choir is under the direction of Dr. Keely J. Rhodes.
